The Mehedinți County Gendarmerie Inspectorate purchased specialized equipment for firefighting purposes within this project to protect the cross-border area in case of natural or man-made disasters.

Contract signing between the project partners

Signing of a contract under the Romania - Bulgaria priority axis 3 "Safe Region" with the working name "Joint Efforts against Natural Disasters" (JEAND), code ROBG - 416 in regard to the strengthening of the landslide in the village of Ignatitsa.

Groundbreaking ceremony of the site - "Strengthening of a landslide in the village of Ignatitsa, Mezdra municipality"

Groundbreaking ceremony and official start of the construction of the site - "Strengthening of a landslide in the village of Ignatitsa, Mezdra municipality" was conducted on July 19, 2019. The investment project includes all activities related to strengthening the slope with three fortification walls of two types of gabions, restoration on the adjacent road section and accompanying strengthening activities, as well as construction of an early warning system.

The construction activities are carried out in implementation of the Project: "Joint efforts against natural disasters", ROBG 416, which is co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund under the Interreg V-A Romania-Bulgaria Program.

The concentration of the efforts of the partner organizations in two directions for risk prevention - the fire-fighting procedures and equipment and the early warning system for prevention of natural disasters and reconstruction of the areas affected by the landslide.

Activities are planned to increase the expertise and response capacity during natural disasters.

The project includes the construction of retaining walls and related activities in order to ensure safe access for all citizens to the affected area.


Activities

The implementation of this project will help create a low-risk area, which will contribute as an added value to the safety of all residents and tourists.

In order to better cooperate with the various structures responsible for disaster management and to successfully address natural challenges at national and cross-border level, it is necessary to establish and implement concrete action plans, while the related training of the staff and local administration involved is mandatory. The envisaged joint trainings will facilitate the exchange of know-how and create a well-structured network for mutual support and establish rapid decision-making procedures for critical situations.

The project is implemented jointly by the Municipality of Mezdra (Bulgaria), as a lead partner and the Mehedinti County Gendarmerie Inspectorate (Romania) - project partner
